A collection is always better with a story, and sometimes the simplest stories are best. Take Carolina Herrera’s pre-fall 2013 collection: the backstory is so simple and yet so romantic you’d almost question that it was true.
Herrera was gifted a custom-made compact by her husband Reinaldo that had a glistening picture of the sun on one side and a diamond-studded crescent moon against an enamel blue night sky on the other. The ‘night and day’ theme made its way into her heart and her dresses of the season.
Herrera’s ‘day’ outfits manifest in strong silhouetted suiting in houndstooth, hinting at 70s styles with their empowered boldness. The day also brought things like pretty floral garden party dresses, and leafy green silks.
But nighttime is what captivates the most. The stellar constellations of starry metallic dots against midnight blue make for breathtaking eveningwear that’s not too much.
There’s romance in the night sky, and Herrera found how to transpose it into a dress.
