Desire and instinct paved the creative path that Phoebe Philo decided to embark on for the upcoming fall / winter 2013 season. The ultra-delicate hues that served to build up the utterly-elegant feel of the Celine show, the sleek update on the voluminous silhouettes and the supreme sophistication that ruled the outerwear segment, were all signaling a heavy change of heart. Borrowing inspiration from Jan Van Eyck’s oil paintings and from the cumulus clouds, Philo decided it’s high time to leave the tomboy days behind and enfold her line in a classic sense of femininity.
Moving forward without leaving any of her signature strengths behind, Philo dressed up her models in fit-and-flare dresses brought up to date, funnel-neck tops with subtle built-in necklaces and magnificent coats, some with sleeves tying in front, mirroring a comforting embrace, others cut in rounded shapes. Plaid woven silk ensembles dipped in blue and red hues interrupted the serene spectacle toward the end of the presentation. Minimal, yet impossibly chic, Celine’s ravishing romanticization made sure to plant the seed of desire in every woman’s heart. If that’s what Philo had in mind, than mission accomplished.
