Following in a previously established path, Raf Simons opened up his pre-fall 2013 collection for the house of Dior with a sleek black suit, a masculine influenced ensemble that also introduced both of the Dior Fall 2012 Couture and Spring 2013 line-ups. What could easily be interpreted as a clear sign of change, became even more apparent once Dior’s utterly feminine and sophisticated evening frocks got to be replaced by an entirely new concept, one that is obviously more oriented towards the everyday silhouette.
A neutral color palette, clean cuts and minimal constraints when it comes to the cutting-edge figures indicated that Simons is loosening up and it’s determined to translate that sense of modern reality to his signature aesthetic as well. The elegant draped waist belts gently covering the trousers made the transition from day to night look effortlessly chic and genuinely appealing.
The Dior woman can rest assured though, because the pre-fall 2013 collection didn’t lack of that supreme sophistication and refined vision that are so deep-rooted in Dior’s tradition. Sensing a strong haute-couture influence, the cocktail and evening gowns were imagined as refreshing tuxedo coatdresses and youthful duchess ball skirts that are heading in a bright new direction. An interesting one for sure.
