It sounds nuts to write it but doesn’t sound as nuts to read it, so here it goes: Christian Siriano’s fall 2012 collection was inspired by horror films. Specifically a vampire one. Halloween designer costumes? Not quite. Though Siriano did offer up to New York fashion week (NYFW) plenty of vampish looks.
Which actually gave fall / winter 2012 its iconic look – the cape. Forget notions of Count Dracula (even if the idea did originate in a similar piece of fiction for Siriano), but many fall 2012’s collections have offered up interpretations of the cape. Interpretations that are perhaps stronger than the last time winter fashions were graced by the outerwear. Though Christian Siriano’s interpretations of the cape and caped-backs weren’t always functional (sheer capes, anyone?) they were iconic, and easily stood out against a collection of black whose highlights came in the guise of sheers and gold.
