“The brain works in mysterious ways” and with that said, Christoper Kane made his unusual source of inspiration this season appear somewhat more reasonable, easier to process. Seen otherwise, building a collection as inspired by the pulse sequence of an MRI brain scan is an action worthy of a modern-day Dr. Frankenstein. But than again, Kane was never shy of showcasing his fascination towards the strange character. Back to the fall / winter 2013 collection, it’s only safe to say that the runway exploded with ideas, all strong, modern and appealing, resonating with Kane’s signature aesthetic.
A warrior quality seemed to best define the array of power coats and sleek, A-line skirts featuring camouflage prints in various hues and textures that were perceived as a sophisticated update on the cool, edgy staple. Complemented by fur accents, the tough-luxe pieces were quickly followed by a selection of equally strong garments imagined as velvet cutout dresses, sheer minis carrying large-scale flower motif embroideries, a t-shirt, a sweater and a sexy dress emblazoned with a brain image and more of Christopher Kane’s exquisite nonchalance. The evening-wear came bearing intricately adorned gowns, covered in hundreds of shiny appliques, creating patterns that felt unique, sensual and pertinent.
