Cividini do one thing very well, consistently, and that’s presenting collections of classic, wearable pieces. fall / winter 2014 was about “harmony and contrast” but to Miriam and Piero Cividini, contrast does not necessarily mean extremes. Rather it means playing one element – a print or fabric or texture – off another as a way of highlighting the qualities of both. A dress half knitted half nappa. A backpack half leather and half tartan. A unique use of layering in complimentary colours but contrasting prints.
The difficulty for a brand like Cividoni is always in how to leave an impression in the absence of pure sex appeal or obvious envelope-pushing. This season it was done with cool layering, flat boyish shoes, and backpacks: things youthful by association but executed in a way that was ageless.
