Collette Dinnigan Fall 2012: gladiatorial lace

Collette Dinnigan does ‘pretty’ well. She does ‘elegant’ well too. And that’s what the designer (mostly) delivered on her autumn / fall 2012 runway at Paris fashion week.

As you’d expect of Collette Dinnigan, the pretty and the elegant were delivered largely through the designer’s well-mastered use of lace. For autumn / fall 2012 that sees lace serve in its expected form as full dresses and also transition through to accents, notably serving as sheer elements across shoulders and necklines alike.

If the visuals of the lace were perfected anywhere, however, it was in the Dinnigan’s embellished lace socks. Some broke at the ankles, but the image that imprinted itself of many a guests’ retinas is that of the knee-high lace socks, their beaded accents catching the runway’s light. Set against some of the collection’s shorter dresses, it infused this fall 2012 collection with a gladiator motif, one that complimented Dinnigan’s use of silver and gold beading. One whose appeal also made the collections’s less refined pieces look decidedly out of place. Stick to the lace.
