Does it matter if the sun has subsided and the night breeze is blowing cold over the ocean? A mermaid is a mermaid all year round, after all.
And so, just a few days into New York fashion week (NYFW), that mythical creature has already had her place cemented in the list of fashion icons for fall 2012. Riding at the front of the wave are designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, bringing their trademark body-conscious cuts back to the runway with a sea-Siren twist.
So what is the appropriate way to look like you’ve just slinked in from the ocean in the middle of winter? Year-round wet look hair, a beauty look that combines earthy, autumnal hues across the eyes with a silvery shimmer dotted at the inner, and fabrics in heavier weights fastened with sporty wetsuit zips. That’s one way of doing it, as Cushnie et Ochs attests.
Definitely more suited to the cool months were the pieces where sleeves reached wrists and even where leather was floor-length in a dress, but the shorter pieces with their cut-outs and silver foil detailing will no doubt still prove popular.
