The flawless union of masculinity with the highest form of femininity set the tone for the splendid juxtaposition of hard and soft elements that served to build Dries Van Noten’s perfectly on point fall / winter 2013 presentation. Layering the gentle ice-skating signature embellishments on garments referencing the oversized tailoring, Van Noten proposed a line up oriented towards the extremes of both worlds.
Playful pinstripes and precise cuts set against floral-printed chiffons and luxurious fringe and feather appliques accented the belted coats, the three-piece suits and the dresses that floated down the runway as gently touched by rich marabou detailing. Everything in the collection was impeccably measured and balanced, as every look effortlessly nodded towards a blend of severe and sophisticated notes, perceived particularly on looks such as the voluminous coat with gold and red embroidery, worn over a pair of mannish pants, or the slouchy oversized sweater paired to a tiered A-line silhouette.
Exquisite jacquards, luxe furs and more of the exaggerated volumes helped define the evening-wear segment of the collection, an alluring swing between transparency and thickness, lightness and density, with airy feather borders placed on elaborate dresses and classic button-down shirts worn with dramatic marabou feather skirts.
