You have to hand it to Dean and Dan Caten: they know how to have fun with a collection.
Their offering for DSquared2 spring / summer 2013 is a foray down the same path they tentatively started down for resort 2013: the one channeling ’90s supermodels in leather biker caps and gold chains made all the more effective when layered on in the plural.
And the truth of the resort collection holds up for spring. This is about tipping hats to an era by way of one specific, iconic, moment of it. It’s Peter Lindbergh’s Vogue shoot of the ’90s supermodel pack honed in on, paid tribute to, and exaggerated to DSquared2′s own fun-loving proportions. Oh, and it’s sexy.
We’ll be missing those 1950s rebellious schoolgirls the Catens brought us last season, but that collection made its mark and the imprint is still with us. So it’s only fair that the boys should take us on a completely different trip for spring.
