Sharon Wauchob might just have raided an army surplus store or two as inspiration for Edun’s spring / summer 2013 collection. That was the feeling you got from the camo prints, the army green on orange colour palette, the functional, utilitarian details. Edun’s girl is tough, though – this is not the decorative military of season’s past. As it has with men’s army clothing, military has moved on and it’s taken a modern, functional path.
For that reason, Edun’s New York fashion week (NYFW) girl wouldn’t look out of place in a jungle, hacking her way through the thickets with a machete (albeit very stylishly). She wears her pants slouchy and low-slung (though with heels, not combat boots) and ties a strip of fabric around her upper-arm to signal that she means business. Ever her underwear (especially her underwear!) is functional but in a very sexy way.
Everyone knows by now that mixing something tough with something feminine is the formula for this particular type of cool, so there’s no need to explain it. Suffice to say, if the army trend continues (and it will) Edun’s collection is a go-to.
