For Elie Saab, exploring femininity in the deepest and purest of forms evolved into an unwritten law, never to be disestablished, never to be disregarded. For fall / winter 2013 the Elie Saab woman went dark, being depicted stronger than ever before, embracing ethereality by the way of a different path, one built upon a tangible androgynous undercurrent. Always refined and effortlessly chic, she faces the day with confidence, donning either high-waisted trousers paired to sheer silk chiffon blouses, or a crêpe satin jumpsuit cut in clean, strong lines.
Alluring but undeniable powerful, the knee-length day-dresses with a peplum defined waist, colored in rich navy, petrol blue or chartreuse yellow radiate a strength that together with the graphic lines, are fundamental to this season’s creations. The masculine tailoring’s domination is somehow softened by the graceful cut-outs and pretentious fabrics like silk, mohair and velvet.
When the night falls, that is when a softer quality becomes more evident, stealing the spotlight. Playful, utterly-feminine, morphing into a silver-screen icon, the Elie Saab woman takes on exquisite floor-length gowns, touched by intricate decorative spirals embroidered in silk, velvet and broderie anglaise. Wrapped in bands of lace playing upon transparency, the body becomes a work of art, all while the Elie Saab woman turns practically irresistible.
