Garth Cook’s spring range featured a signature Orchid digital print, and its the colours from that print that have been isolated and injected into the palette for his Resort 2013 collection. Resort may not be filled with prints, but it’s the evolution of the orchid motif – along with tufts of fabric appliquéd onto dresses in flower-like shapes – that earn the collection the title Barlia. Barlia, for those not so botanically inclined, is a genus of the orchid family.
If there’s one other thing about Cook’s resort collection that makes you draw mental association with gardens of orchids, it’s the way the delicately hued pieces fold and envelop the body, petal-like at times. Metallic gowns make a futuristic statement, while sheer ones are pure – but pretty – boldness.
