Layers of fabric, cut with asymmetric hems and bits that tie up here or there – can often come off looking deconstructed in a heavy and unflattering way. Not the case for Gary Graham’s spring / summer 2013 collection. Graham kept a lightness and freshness to the patchwork of homely florals and ethnic prints, to the draping and unusual shapes.
Long shirts layered over cropped pants had a relaxed ease, while multi-layered peplums worked well over shorts – stripped of their usual strictness. The organic hues of the collection lent it a kind of bohemian air. Free-spirited, but not without sophistication.
