Masculine met feminine at the Giambattista Valli fall / winter 2013 presentation in a collection that exuded an utterly-sophisticated urban attitude, the kind envisioned to fit the expectations of a glamorous, confident and refined clientele. The Valli woman will have no trouble in finding that her aesthetic was injected with a sportswear flair, because the striking results could hardly be defined as boyish or mundane.
Exquisitely colored in black and white hues, Valli’s idea of casual chic translated to oversized parkas, cropped pants, fur-lined turtlenecks, topped with flat pony-hair loafers that best illustrate the “melting together of the boy and girl wardrobes”. Delicate ivory dresses, structured wool vests and fur inserts accenting the clean day silhouettes, offered new perspective on how a daytime wardrobe should look like according to Giambattista Valli.
For night, the subtle draping, the glamorous sequins and the metallic highlights, crowned by an ethereal winter white ensemble giving off a majestic feel, represented toned down, minimalist alternatives that for once, put the strongest emphasis on reality while steering away from the fantasy-land and couture-like drama known as defining some of the previous seasons.
