Print and bright colour are almost everywhere for spring / summer 2013; but where print and colour are not, it seems the alternative of choice is monochrome. Black and white collections are popping up in more places than expected, perhaps something of a response to all the brightness and print. The anti-movement, if you will.
Bar for a few reptile prints and gold flourishes, Gianfranco Ferre’s Milan fashion week (MFW) show was another to present a selection of black, white, and minimal. It was feminine yet architectural and strong – Guy Bordin’s photographic subjects were amoungst the inspirations – and despite the minimal colour palette the details had a definite luxuriousness.
The Ferre brand is in the midst of a legal and financial storm, but if it’s facing an uncertain future this collection makes sure it’s doing so boldly.
