Serene, ethereal and light, just like a scene depicted in the most profound of dreams, Giles’ fall / winter 2013 collection came down the runway bringing along a sense of drama. Giles Deacon is no stranger in combining inspiration coming from worlds apart, but this season, more than ever before, the romantic and soft side of fashion, collided beautifully with the subtle Gothic exploration, in a line up that brought bits of the past back in a present where they felt needed. A white, silky Edwardian gown, accented by balloon sleeves evoking the Middle Ages romance, was the the first sign that something extraordinary was bound to happen.
Alongside the impressive ballgowns, a selection of rich laser-cut gold leather garments, finished off with feather adornments hanging gently from the hems, were a sweet reminder of Giles’ distinctive attributes. Further pursuing lightness in his designs, Deacon made use of delicate fabrics, dusted pinks and warm beiges, broken off only towards the end of the presentation when a display of dresses dipped in the brightest fuchsia tones took center stage. The collection ended up in a dark note, strongly emphasizing the sharp tailoring, styled as the entire line up was, by oversized, knitted beanies.
