It can’t be easy to escape something iconic when you either created or popularised it. It must exist as some kind of black hole, sucking in all competing ideas. Max Azria certainly didn’t invent the bandage dress, but it definitely remains the Herve Leger fashion label’s iconic look. And when we face facts, it also remains the label’s cash cow. Abandon the bandage dress, Herve Leger will not.
But it has to be adapted. After all, having been copied countless times by the high street, the bandage dress is now a tired story, no matter how much it compliments a particular type of body.
Rely on the bandage dress Herve Leger fall 2012 did again. However, this is one collection in which the bandage dress plays second fiddle.
And it plays second fiddle to the leather harness. With good cause – the harness being a fall 2011 accessory trend that features amongst 2012’s fashion trends. Elsewhere it’s slim cuts and leather and, talking of things that have had their day, gladiator boots. Thus its for good reason that, whether structured like tack or a breast plate, leather harnesses dominate Herve Leger by Max Azria’s fall 2012 collection.
