From chic military jackets to boldly striped sweaters, J.Crew’s spring / summer 2013 offering is sure to satisfy many of your fashion needs this fall. Inspired by the color blocking of American painter Ellsworth Kelly and Hungarian-French optical artist Victor Vasarely, head of J.Crew menswear Frank Muytjens further developed the reliable minimalism of J.Crew that men around the world have grown to love.
The collection, presented at New York fashion week (NYFW), was most noticeable for the number of impressive shades that it proffered. Pastels made a stout showing with pink, lavender, and periwinkle at the forefront. However, these lighter elements were kept in check by darker (almost amber) goldenrod, army olive, and midnight blue. All of these hues were expertly combined into color blocked ensembles with stark contrast stripes streaking across flat front shorts.
Outerwear was distinctly military with infantry and air force jackets paired stylishly with both shirt-and-tie and casual tee looks. Due to their versatility, these pieces will make a great addition to any man’s 2013 wardrobe.
Along that same vein of adaptability, J.Crew’s trademark striped sweaters were a sight to behold. While thick stripes are clearly the brand’s strong suit, thinner lines and solid coloured sweaters also impacted the runway and are a surefire color contribution to the spring closet that can be worn with vivid shorts or just some comfortable denim.
Whatever trend you seek to explore in the upcoming spring / summer session, J.Crew will undoubtedly have an article or two to complement your warm season look.
