While J.Crew men’s leaned to the nautical and military, the brand’s spring / summer 2013 women’s collection riffed on schoolgirl chic. That was more of a mood created by references like preppy piped blazers, ties, and thick-rimmed glasses but the pastel hued colour palette ensured this was the stuff of the streets, not of the actual classroom.
Beyond those youthful geek-chic sentiments, J.Crew’s womenswear presentation at New York fashion week (NYFW) threw a pyjama party of prints – and I don’t use the word pyjama for no good reason, if you count the paisleys and stripes – and imbued the entire collection with a whimsical 1960s vibe.
