Jasper Conran Autumn / Winter 2013

Safe silhouettes may have been the mark of Jasper Conran’s reinterpretation of 1960s fashion for autumn 2013, but the colours were anything but safe.

On a London fashion week (LFW) morning that had largely been defined by winter greys, Conran instead opted for bold colours aplenty. While the show may have opened with blacks and browns, the glimmering red catwalk upon which each model wafted hinted at the bold hues to come. Red, pinks, yellows and even a hint of metallic were all there, all bold enough to distract from unrevolutionary cuts.

The true strength here, if you look at Conran’s show from a catwalk as spectacle perspective, is in the colour and the accessories. Handbags were finished in the same bold hues and the hats were elongated enough to be viewed as a classic-made-statement.

Jasper Conran autumn 2013 is the designer playing to his strength: classic reimagined. Not thrilling to behold on a catwalk, but certain to be a success of the devotees of 60s fashion safely reimagined.
