The Milan fashion week (MFW) runway served as scene to a rather unexpected clash of styles during John Richmond’s fall 2013 presentation. Clearly not the most cohesive collection, Richmond’s vision jumped from sartorial to casual-cool with an ease that left people wondering if there was really a story behind it all. Wool suits, printed t-shirts, quilted jackets, denim pants, cut-out knits and leather paneled coats, you name it because it was all there just waiting to happen.
Towards the end, the collection got even more surprising, especially at the point when the classic fall palette made out exclusively of black, gray, army green and burgundy got to be infused with gorgeous shades of white and bold orange, and brought to life by a selection of playful prints and embellishing motifs. A game of contrasts it was, but sometimes there’s nothing wrong with a little variety.
