John Rocha is certainly not a designer to shy away from the voluminous and, as his autumn 2011 collection had done previously, the John Rocha autumn 2012 collection certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Continuing where both the John Rocha autumn 2011 and spring 2012 collections left off, the designer against uses his best tried elements for autumn 2012 balancing slim silhouettes with excessively voluminous ones. It’s hard to imagine precisely who the most excessively voluminous dresses-cum-outerwear-cum-twice-your-normal-size are imagined for, and this story of Rocha’s continues to work best when it’s an individual element, say a collar, that is exaggerated and enlarged.
More interesting than the collection’s proportions is Rocha’s continuing use of sheers. This is certainly not a collection shy on showing off skin and Rocha doesn’t take to it lightly – it’s great as contrast sheer colour-blocked dress, but I’m not certain that autumn / winter 2012 will see the streets filled with sheer maxi skirts that require the aid of eye catching hot pants even when the look is as brilliantly styled as it is with a waist cinching belt and cropped coat.
