John Varvatos’ rockers find elegance

Rock finds relevance in elegance. Or, more specifically, John Varvatos’ spring / summer 2013 collection does. Created “for men who want to be dressed up but not stiff,” Varvatos’ latest show is underpinned by his usual staples: organic, crumpled fabrics; rockstar hair (with a soundtrack to match – think Miles Kane, Arctic Monkeys and Richard Hawley); leather cuffs and canvas boots. Is it all boy-rocker though? No – this is aimed at a generation with a growing craving for elegance but one “that, so far, has not experienced a taste of it”.

With that, Varvatos gets the mood just right. The zeitgeist right now does dictate a desire for something sharp and tailored, but not stiff. So John Varvatos’ signature rocker aesthetic for spring gets a whole lot sharper. Just add a waistcoat, tie and collar bar – maybe even a straw hat with a satin band – and you have yourself a deal.
