Celebrating femininity in a 1950s inspired fall / winter 2013 collection, Jonathan Saunders steered away from the futuristic metallic accents that marked his spring 2013 line up, embracing the past for a chance, more precisely the fit and flare silhouettes that draw inspiration from the British pinup girls. Infusing his collection with enough sex-appeal to make one forget all about the old-fashion influence, Saunders made use of molded bustiers, bra straps and cups peaking out of satin dresses, further accenting the bust, hips and waist in all of his other ladylike designs.
Flirty in appearance, provocative in essence, Saunder’s line up is still far from being defined by any notion related to traditionalism. But a certain select quality could come across as relevant, especially if we switch focus on the clean, restrictive shapes of the coats and jackets, the slightly oversized V neck sweaters, the delicate feel of the knee-length cocktail dresses or the mustard and rust hues representative of the utterly sophisticated color palette. Jonathan Saunders felt it was time to cross some boundaries, to push the limits of good taste and to allow women to play upon their seductiveness, and after witnessing the collection, no one can really argue with that.
