While the location of Lanvin’s fall / winter 2013 presentation might have stayed the same, the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, something in the way Alber Elbaz built his brilliant line up this season changed, if not completely, at least substantially. After witnessing Tilda Swinton’s “Impossible Wardrobe”, Elbaz realized that in the end it is all about the craft. With that in mind, his garments kept a raw appearance while injected with a new sense of playfulness. “Happy”, “Cool”, “Help” and “Love” were just a few of the loud messages delivered via the statement necklaces that accompanied the looks coming down the runway.
Impeccably tailored, the ultra-feminine silhouettes cut in the most exquisite fabrics, colored in dark navy, black and icy pearl among other glamorous jewel tones, reached a new level of effortless sophistication. From voluminous skirts, to bustier dresses, from sleek day suits to belted coats, and from luxurious fur accents to delicate butterfly and organza rose appliques, everything in the collection pointed towards a rediscovered sense of beauty in fashion. The silk dresses, ruffled blouses and cropped pants kept the line up real, elegant but edgy, just like the Lanvin woman is delicately portrayed this season.
