Ballet gone tropical? That was Lisa Ho’s brief for Australian fashion week (MBFWA) and it manifested immediately in the first look: a flirty dress that tutu-ed out from the waist, in vibrant yellow. An eclectic flow of colour and print followed, from hibiscus to palm, a particularly note worthy number floating behind the body of Rachel Rutt in semi-sheer tropical print.
A few peplums and silk shorts later and a white dress with structured ruffled mesh sleeves and sheer ankle length skirts ushered in the evening wear contingent of the show. These were spring’s examples of what Ho does best, from a silk tulle gown in rich admiral blue, to the closing number – a structured banana palm gown with cutaway sides that stormed rather than sauntered down the runway on Lauren Brown.
