Margaret Howell is all about traditional British fabrics, and her men’s collection for fall / winter 2013 was no exception – with Harris tweed and serge twill fabrics stars of the London fashion week (LFW) show. None the less there was a Parisian flair to pairings of berets and relaxed coats that ended up feeling mildly painterly and smockish. Not that it’s meant as any criticism: the untucked shirts, striped tees and drawstring pants were an effortless, off-duty look that was elevated by smart accessories like hats and thick-rimmed glasses.
In a muted fall palette of greys, khakis and browns, you might not stand out a mile in Howell’s men’s collection… but then it would also be hard to go wrong in it.
