Martin Grant was tailoring vintage elegance into every one of his spring / summer 2013 outfits. The Paris fashion week (PFW) show opened with midnight blue silk contrasted by a metallic gold collar. The palette thereafter was bright, uncomplicated, and refreshing, from crisp white to fiery red and pitch black.
What Grant created was something akin to an elegant 1940s woman on holiday to an exotic place. She’s the kind of woman who has poise, a penchant for red lipstick; outside she shades her skin from the sun with an elegantly brimmed hat. Of course she’s been transposed to the modern day: Grant’s collection felt nothing less than ideal for the contemporary woman who admires the neglected grace of eras yore and does her part in preserving its relevance.
And that’s what this show did. From the jazz soundtrack to the neatly twisted-back hair, it gave relevance to refinement and elegance in a clean and modern way.
