It’s not just the womenswear collections finding interesting ways to draw inspiration from the arts; Martine Rose’s spring / summer 2013 collection morphed out of a fascination with Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s marble sculptures.
“SS13 is based on Bernini’s sculptures, in particular The Rape of Persephone. The collection is derived from abstract form, the appearance of fabrics that defy their nature – like sculpture.”
Rose’s collection plays with shape, size and proportion: but it’s the more streamlined outfits – neoprene panelled pants and a short-sleeved white shirt, boxy knits in bold colours – that were the most flattering.
