If the spot lights were a little more prominent, there would’ve been a lot more sunglasses in the front row of Matthew Williamson’s autumn 2012 runway show. A mélange of metallics and bright jewel tones came down the catwalk in true Williamson style, the impact of the brights often toned down by matts and sheer organzas.
Matthew Williamson’s autumn / winter 2012 runway was so much of a full-on wardrobe of ostentatious pieces that it was hard to blink in case you missed something. Like other designers for the season, Williamson has added a hint of the androgynous to this collection, working with strong brocade trousers and sharp blazers. It was a multi-tonal sequin detail running through the collection, like a thread, in midnight and vibrant colour-ways that demanded the attention, however, though we’d be amiss to not highlight Williamson’s signature printed maxis in an array of prints and lush fabrics.
Textured layering was apparent as the collection unfurled; oversized jacquard dresses with long sleeve jersey peeping through from beneath, a bright pool blue polo neck teamed with an organza tee, and metallic pencil skirts formed a new take on classic tailoring.
Taking into account the variety of style he delivers every season, is it then safe to say there is something for everyone?
