Moncler Gamme Bleu: nautical but not cliche

Semaphore flags lined the room and sailors danced on stage. Moncler Gamme Bleu’s spring / summer 2013 collection was nautical inspired and designer Thom Browne wanted everyone to know it.

The Milan fashion week (MFW) show was rife with sailing references from its colour palette of pure white progressing to navy and red, to details like life vest straps and sail-like capes fastened to the body with ropes.

Still, for a sailing-inspired collection and one that even ventured into cropped pants with a subtle bell bottom, Moncler somehow steered clear of the nautical cliches. And beneath the showpieces, some that left you scratching your head a little, there were plenty of rehashed classics made sporty and fresh.
