Monique Lhuillier opened her fall 2013 with a blizzard of soft winter whites, the kind that call to mind snow queens from the pages of fairytale books. But before long, the show catapulted into a rich, jewel-toned green as striking as the New York fashion week (NYFW) runway backdrop.
Pantone crowned emerald green their colour of the year for 2013, and if one designer thus far has made the most of its precious and richly inviting connotations, it’s Lhuillier. That’s not to downplay the importance of shimmering silver, fiery red and royal purple in the collection: when coupled with Art Deco inspired architectural patterns, intricate spiderweb lace, and a rich mine of metallic gold, there can be no starlet left wanting, no red carpet too stately, no woman too glamorous for Lhuillier’s impeccably wrought collection of gowns.
