Keeping her on-going love affair with prints alive and strong, Monique Lhuillier found her pre-fall 2013 inspiration in the idea of a distant future. Her daring collection reads sci-fi influences, but in an effortless celestial way, rather than in eccentricity and quirkiness. The silhouettes however are kept very much feminine, despite the abstract galaxy accents that toughened the edgy yet sophisticated numbers.
For day, the lineup pushes the limitless boundaries with impeccable tailoring, in an array of almost sculptural-looking gunmetal dresses, leather garments and intricate separates, gently covered in the highly conceptual galaxy print. There’s a certain ease that goes hand in hand with the futuristic theme, translating into relaxed silhouettes and minimum embellishments, all utterly appealing for the modern-day woman.
For night, the celestial influences were noticeable in the metallic silver and gold embroidery, alongside the flawless take on delicate crystals and beads. The last two were transformed in unique and mesmerizing graphic motifs that emphasized the subtle and feminine chiffon numbers. Lace and the most flattering draping method completed the sumptuous picture, with a selection of gowns most likely to be spotted on the red carpet early next year, as the awards season is rapidly approaching.
