I was told Nuno Gama always has some trick, some spectacle, up his sleeve. This fall / winter 2014 season I caught a whisper of a potential horse being on the runway. Partially correct: there were many horses. And a mounted brass section. And a marching band.
We, the spectators, lined a runway that ran along Lisbon’s city square before circling the central statue of its once and former King. When the procession of horses and trumpets faded into the distance, the models marched out one by one in a collection of menswear that spanned casual to formal, streetwear to knitwear to suiting.
Gama’s collection had some gems, but could have been more tightly curated. His most striking pieces were the military ones: not only did they stand out for their impeccable, opulent detailing – but they suited the spectacle to perfection. For these, it was worth the wait.
