Lydia Maurer took a leap of faith and for the fall / winter 2013 season the designer pursued in exploring a sharp, futuristic flair, for a line up keen on referencing the pared-down mod style of French singer and actress Françoise Hardy. Past and future joined forces and as a result, Maurer’s second collection for Paco Rabanne was a tremendous example of smart tailoring, deep accuracy and rich heritage.
Sleek updates on the pilot uniform nodded towards another theme researched by Maurer as a series of trimmed suits in dark navy and black referred to aviation as main source of inspiration. The focus of the collection fell on fluid metal mesh garments instead, as a full spectrum of flirty dresses, a long-sleeve chain-mail jumpsuit and other silver ensembles helped build the shiny fantasy influenced by the 1960s. The show closed with a disarming display of chain-mail mini dresses dipped in heavy hues of black and blue, softening gradually until they became one with the delicate lace.
