Never let it be said that Philipp Plein is short on theatrics. There are the theatrics of attempting to get into his show (a mosh pit of people jostling to get past the security rope, personal space be damned). There’s the one hour wait for the show to start because the aforementioned guests simply can’t get into the venue in a timely fashion given the mosh pit. There’s the pre-show performance, here by Iggy Azalea and her twerking dancers. And there’s the abrasively loud soundtrack and epilepsy-inducing lighting.
Then there’s the opening statement;
Saw God, OMG. She’s black.
Or at least, all the model are.
Somewhere in amongst all those attempts for your attention, as your eardrums bleed their last, is the collection. Black, white, metallic, and bling adorned, its pieces stream down the catwalk each attempting to outdo the last. There are the pieces for the street, those for the nightclub, those for a red carpet of questionable standards and those for… actually I have no idea where you’re meant to wear a metallic blue, diamante-laden biker jacket. Someone will be able to tell me, however, for Plein certainly has some semblance of a market if the fact that half the catwalk’s audience was diamante-adored is anything to go by.
