After witnessing Ralph Lauren’s glorious fall / winter 2013 runway presentation everyone agreed on one thing: the designer was fully back in the game, with a collection that appeared to entirely reflect the fabulous and sophisticated aesthetic we were in love with all along, but missed discovering during several of his most recent line ups. Romantic but also playing tough, mixing military notes with gorgeous velvets, the collection was telling a story where inspiration coming from above the waters met the opulence of the night, effortlessly blending naval references with exquisite embroideries.
An immaculate array of black, white and navy garments opened the presentation but it wasn’t long before we were transported somewhere in the universe of Anna Karenina, where luxurious jewel-toned velvet gowns, skirts, jackets and coats made all the sense in the world. Styled with newsboy caps, wide leather belts and Russian fur caps the garments seemed more than fit for a winter wonderland.
Closing the show, grand ballgowns and red carpet ready dresses, both feminine and dramatic, demanded attention, stealing everyone’s eyes ant it won’t be long until they will find a way to the hearts of the celebrity fashionsitas that love to daze and amaze. That is of course if they haven’t already.
