It may have opened with a fur-lined hood fit for the Antarctic, but Reinaldo Lourenco’s fall / winter 2012 runway show at Sao Paulo fashion week (SPFW) moved quickly into lighter – and sexier – fabrics. The mix of black sheers and black leather bordered the line between fetish and mainstream, alternative and luxury. Sheer hoods and oversized black pendants had a Gothicism that will no doubt prove popular for many a disciple of the rock-chic look.
In between the procession of black, Lourenco’s collection burst out into a carnival of colourful prints – though they kept a muted, wintry feel that didn’t shine too boldly against soft grey baselines. The closing outfits of draped blood-red hoods against black velvet had a Gothic fairytale appeal that still hit a high level of wearability. In all Lourenco’s mix stood out on the Sao Paulo runways for the right reasons.
