Not all collections are made for bright lights and camera flashes, red carpets and podiums, nor are they all intended to steal the breath from the lungs of anyone who lays eyes on them. Some are simply saleable, everyday wearable, and Richard Nicoll happens to be rather good at creating those.
Spring / summer 2014 dressed Nicoll’s elegant tomboy in bold optical stripes, in deconstructed tailoring with a sporty edge, and in sheer layers that gave a hint of sex appeal to the otherwise fresh and innocent crispness of cotton.
In black and white and with pops of bubblegum pink, the whole show felt simultaneously playful and yet ultimately sophisticated. Simple worked best for these looks – chic accessories and a nonchalant low ponytail – and all in all Nicoll’s customer won’t be let down.
