Roberto Cavalli men’s: the softer touch

It’s always refreshing to see brands taking certain seasons to a sublime level. The Roberto Cavalli autumn (fall) / winter 2012 menswear show lends itself well to this fact; we have seen womenswear take on a level of androgyny and adopt a hint of a man’s tailoring touch so to speak. However, it’s far rarer to see the same in reverse; the double printed suit trend? Check. The layering of various textures? Cavalli has done it. Man-capes? Yes sir! So when looking through the Cavalli men’s collection, we see a cross over of trends and guess what? Men are actually pulling it off! Cobalt blue man-capes, and leather and wool combined knitwear is not just a thing for the fashion savvy lady but a look that is becoming apparent in a man’s wardrobe faster than you can say run roger rabbit.

The genius that is Cavalli plays with shapes and fabrics and manipulates them into wearable pieces. Take the oversized, hooded jumper with leather panels intertwined into the wool, or the velvet croc-skin effect dinner jacket. We see the power trend present here, with structured suits, smart knits and leather jackets which can be worn with velour and still look smart! Pieces, which will not only turn heads, but will remain as statement finds for seasons and years to come. Like I said – genius!
