Roberto Cavalli Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2014 men’s

Roberto Cavalli fall / winter 2014 wasn’t just a runway, it was an epilepsy-inducing light show, a fashion film, a live photoshoot and an installation. Sort of. The film was all snakes and desert sands and once the runway started you could see why. This was Cavalli at his rockstar-cowboy-in-the-desert best. Read: lots of leather pants, prints, embellished jackets and attitude.

The models wore bands across their foreheads and bandanas tied around their hands. As they criss-crossed around the unusual runway – which was lined on one side by sprawling leather armchairs instead of benches – a photographer stopped them for an impromptu mid-walk mini shoot. I wondered where these photos would end up.

As always with Cavalli, you must enter with an open mind towards the maximalism that’s bound to follow. Cavalli isn’t one for holding back on the detail – impressive detail at that – though when worn all at once the effect can be daunting. As the lineup transitioned to tailoring and evening suiting, it hit its stride. These rockstar-cowboy-bikers need a few classics in their wardrobes, too.
