Some collections revealed during New York fashion week (NYFW) are just beyond comparison with any of the other ones trading at the moment. Maybe because of its personal level of inspiration, Rodarte’s fall / winter 2013 line up is one of those rare examples of meaningful uniqueness, sticking to a background story that provides enough motivation and spark to build an entire spectrum of nostalgic looks upon. Their wearable character however, might still be put under questioning.
Departing from a mix of reminiscent memories celebrating their growing up in sunny California, Kate and Laura Mulleavy felt like exposing a little part of their history on the New York fashion week (NYFW) runway and with that we were reintroduced to the late 1980s, where tie-dye dresses, exaggerated shoulders and lengths, placed in the proximity of boxy jackets and cut-out tiered cocktail frocks felt just like taking a step back in time. In spite of that, there were many elements left, ready to reassure the fact that the line up was in fact meant for the upcoming seasons and less for the days gone by.
