Steffie Christiaens fall 2013: playing with contrasts

At a designated meeting point between the classical and the futuristic sits Steffie Christiaens’s fall / winter 2013 collection; a lineup that revels in contrasts – the warm and sumptuous against the steely and cold, the tailored against the draped. Christiaens was inspired by the whirling spectacle of Sufi dancers, specifically Ziya Azazi, which resulted in a collection infused with volume, fluidity and grace.

Christiaens’s accessories compliment the collection so strongly, you can hardly imagine it having the same impact without them. The industrial feel of bangles worn mid forearm, constructed of metal and raw pyrite, the bolt-closures on belts and metal rivets on gloves, all transformed the near-Grecian fluid dresses into something inspired by the past but touched by the future.
