Prints have been everywhere the past few seasons, but rarely are the garments a reflection of what’s printed onto their fabric. Thakoon Panichgul wasn’t going to be hamstrung by what everyone else has been doing, however. His opener at New York fashion week (NYFW) foreshadowed the motif that was to come in a somewhat literal way: it was a dress like a delicate bird cage.
From there the bird motif broke out and blossomed across Thakoon’s spring / summer 2013 collection. Hummingbirds delivered gifts to one another across a cotton skies. Gardens of orchids repeated in pattern across dresses and jackets.
Large, translucent paillettes were like petals, or maybe feathers, across some pieces – either way, they fit well with the theme.
Thakoon’s silhouette was undeniably feminine, from full skirts to peplums. Seems that’s one kind of silhouette we’ll be carrying over to spring 2013.
