Skulls and studs and crucifixes… you might think the uses for Gothic iconography and tough details have been exhausted by the likes of Givenchy and Alexander McQueen, but Thomas Wylde pre-fall 2012 unashamedly puts them to use and does so with a burst of fresh air. Without embarking on any revolutions, the collection takes well-worn themes and executes them with fresh, fierce simplicity. With sheer fabrics and leather details, crucifix-studded bibs and skull-and-rose prints, these are pieces that feel Gothic but not fetishist, potentially marking them for broader appeal.
