Maticevski’s faux beehive hair

Toni Maticevski’s overall vision for his spring / summer 2012/13 collection resonates on the chord of textures.

While his runway pieces, shown on day two of Australian fashion week (MBFWA), work the concept of spring layering and textured fabrics, the hair also adapts the same concept.

Jayne Wild from ghd says, “The fit of the collection is such that you wouldn’t do the runway show justice with any other hairstyle. We have worked around three different textures into the hair, adhering to the runway style”.

Wild starts with a defined centre part, and pulls out two pigtail ponytails on the crown of the head. The ponytails are backcombed to create two quiff-like rolled-in buns on top of the head.

Two textured sections of hair are then wrapped around the front and back of the updo to camouflage the two buns into looking like a faux beehive.

Corresponding to the hair, the makeup look for the show is kept modern and linear, again a reflection of Maticevski’s clothes. The painted-on bold eyebrows are flicked out to work with velvety skin and nude lips.
