“An exploration of classic dressmaking in sculptural silhouettes” this is how Vera Wang described her fall / winter 2013 collection presented during New York fashion week (NYFW). Capturing the entire essence of her new line up in a single sentence, Wang embarked on yet another road. One with a sharp focus on femininity, which she does so effortlessly, cocoon-like silhouettes, exquisite fur touches and dashing accessories. The spotlight fell on opera gloves as they were styling almost half of the 48 looks to have walked the runway.
Equally eye-catching, the tulip shaped dresses, the gathered peplums and the folded skirts further provided us with examples of Wang’s undeniable construction capabilities. Iridescent sequin cocktail frocks, alongside metallic brocade pants and Chantilly lace inserted tops felt very now, utterly elegant and offered enough options for fabulous evenings out. Qualified as one of her most dramatic collections to date, Vera Wang’s forward looking line of garments for fall made excellent use of the rich, sculptural volumes and shapes.
