It only took that very first moment when supermodel Kristen McMenamy unexpectedly introduced the Atelier Versace haute couture spring 2013 collection on the Paris fashion week (PFW) runway, for the audience to detect a distinct change of direction coming for Donatella Versace this season. Something in the bold attitude of the models, mixed with the glamorous take on the classic pantsuit betrayed what later appeared as the designer’s strikingly new found enchantment towards daywear.
Of course, nothing in the fabulous line-up was plain or simple, as the 24-karat gold pinstripes, shoulder padding and slick inserts made quite obvious from the very beginning. It was the idea of a highly sophisticated take on daywear, influenced by the restrictiveness of the masculine tailoring and balanced by a serious dose of sex-appeal that made more sense as the show progressed.
Flirty neon dresses, bringing back under the spotlight the asymmetrical silhouettes, evoked the refined summer spirit as they walked hand in hand with a beautiful selection of Grecian inspired mini-frocks showcasing beautiful beading detailing. The gorgeous array of evening gowns were just as electrifying and glamorous with a clear focus on fitted silhouettes, intricate cut-outs and metallic accents.
