Mixing traditionally feminine elements with masculine ones, Walter Van Beirendonck presented a Paris fashion week (PFW) show in which the unlikely stars were intricate beading, heeled platform shoes, and oversized earrings. But while these things, more often seen on a womens runway, were clearly not intended for just any guy, Van Beirendonck also showed how the blurring gender line can spawn androgynous looks that really work: best demonstrated in metallic brocade skinny suits, a pair of slim cut pants in the most wearable dusty pink, and soft coloured turtleneck knits.
These were counterbalanced in the show by the weird, wacky and wonderful side of Van Beirendonck – after all, that’s what the man is all about.
